History of Relations
Ethiopia has a rich historical affiliation with the State of Qatar. The wisdom and strong solidarity of our fore fathers have shaped our history and national values. Contemporary Ethiopia-Qatar relations are also built on shared values reinforced by the commitment of the leadership of both countries.
State and official visits/ Bilateral Meetings.
In December 2012 H.E Hailemariam Desalegn, Prime Minister of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, during his visit to Qatar to attend UN Climate Change Conference, met with the then Emir H.H. Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani.
The evolvement of bilateral relation was subsequently followed by exchange of higher officials visit to both countries. Qatari delegation led by former Prime Minister and Foreign Minister H.E. Hamad bin Jassim bin Jaber Al-Thani in order to sign agreements on Economic and Technical Cooperation Agreement, Memorandum of understanding between the Ministries of Foreign affairs of both countries on conducting bilateral consultation, and Agreement on the Establishment of the Joint Ministerial Committee.
These diplomatic interactions were culminated in the State visit to Ethiopia of the Emir of State of Qatar, Sheikh Hamad bin-Khalifa Al-Thani, in February 2013. Cabinet ministers responsible for foreign Affairs, State Minister for Finance and Economy and Agriculture exchanged visits.
These Exchanges of visits by higher officials led to the opening of Embassies both in Addis Ababa and Doha in the year 2013.
Recently senior Ethiopian delegation led by H.E. Ambassador Berhane Gebre-Christos, State Minister for Foreign Affairs participated at the first Session of Ethiopia-Qatar Joint Technical Committee Meeting that took place in Doha from 10-11 November, 2014.
The Embassy of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia since its opening has been promoting foreign and security policy objectives which is to create a favorable atmosphere to safeguard national interest and protect rights of Ethiopian nationals.
