Joint communiqué Issued on the Official visit of His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani Emir of the State of Qatar to Ethiopia
Addis Ababa, 10th April 2017

Upon the invitation of H.E Hailemariam Desalegn, Prime Minister of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, His Highness the Emir of the State of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani paid a state visit on April 10-11, 2017 to the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia.

Upon arrival at Bole International Airport in Addis Ababa, His Highness the Emir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani was accorded a warm welcome by H.E Hailemariam Desalegn, Prime Minister of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia. High ranking government officials, members of the diplomatic corps, Ambassador of the State of Qatar in Addis Ababa and members of the Qatari staffs.

​During the state visit, the two leaders held bilateral talks in a friendly and cordial atmosphere during which they reiterated their strong commitment to enhance the two countries’ relations and cooperation.

The two leaders took note of the expanding cooperation and people to people relations between the two counties. They underscored the need to cooperate further on international and regional issues of common concern.

H.E. Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn commended the role of the State of Qatar in resolving conflicts in the Horn of Africa, as well as for the peace initiatives in Darfur, the Sudan.

H.H. Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, the Emir of the State of Qatar, on his part commended Ethiopia’s efforts in bringing lasting peace and stability in the Horn of Africa Region within the IGAD framework.

H.H. Sheik Tamim bin Hamad Al-Tani, The Emir of the State of Qatar, pledged for humanitarian assistance to draught victims in different parts of Ethiopia. His Highness also expressed the readiness of the State of Qatar to support the efforts of the Government of Ethiopia for development in education, health and infrastructure like energy. He also pledged to finance an establishment of specialized hospital for kidney treatment.

In the realm of business and economic cooperation, the two leaders underlined the fact that the complementary nature of their economies makes it easier to enhance their economic cooperation, both private and public. In this regard, they agreed to encourage the private sectors of both countries to increase their contacts and cooperation.

They also agreed on the need to strengthen and regularize political dialogue and consultation between the two countries. They further agreed to participate in efforts of the international community to maintain peace and security in their respective regions and the world at large.

At the conclusion of the state visit, His Highness, the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, H.E. Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn on his part, expressed his gratitude to His Highness for visiting Ethiopia and for the cordial and fruitful discussions they had. On his part H.H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani thanked H. E. Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn, the Government and people of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia for the warm reception and hospitality accorded to him and his accompanying delegation. He also extended an invitation to H.E Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn to pay a state visit to the State of Qatar at a date, which will be mutually agreed upon through diplomatic channels.

Prime Minister Hailmariam arrives in Uganda, Entebbe for an official visit

A high- level Ethiopian delegation led by Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn arrived in Uganda, Entebbe on Thursday (March 02, 2017) on a three day official visit at the invitation of President Yoweri Museveni. 
The Ethiopian delegation comprises senior government officials, including Foreign Minister Dr. Workneh Gebeyehu, among others.
Upon arrival at Entebbe International Airport, the Prime Minister was received by Sam Kutesa, Ugandan Foreign Minister.
The Premier then headed to the State House in Entebbe where he was received by President Yoweri Museveni during which 19 gun salutes were fired in his honor.
During the three-day official visit, the Ethiopian delegation is expected to discuss with Ugandan officials on ways of strengthening the bilateral cooperation, as well as explore regional and continental issues of mutual concern. 
The two sides are also expected to sign Memoranda of Understanding on a range of sectors.

Nation celebrates 121st anniversary of the victory of Adwa

The 121st anniversary of the victory of Adwa was colorfully celebrated at the historic town of Adwa, Tigray regional state, the very spot where Ethiopians defeated the Italian invading army on March 1, 1896.
Speaking at the celebration, President Mulatu Teshome said Adwa is a great victory which resonates the spirit of cooperation and mutual respect as well as the value of determination for success, adding "it is a victory for all black people."
The President said "Our ancestors have made huge sacrifices to safeguard the sovereignty of the country and pass it down to the existing generation."
The current generation, and the youth in particular, Dr. Mulatu added need to step up its engagement towards building the national image, further calling the nation to support the country's ongoing development projects, and notably the construction of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD). 
At the event, Deputy Prime Minister Demeke Mekonnen handed over a torch for President Mulatu Teshome and Speaker of the House of Federation, Yaelw Abate, dedicated for the proposed campaign to raise fund for GERD, which will unfold on March 26, 2017 in Addis Ababa, and ran across all the regional states and city administrations for 11 months.
In connection, Deputy Prime Minister Demeke Mekonnen called on all Ethiopians to sustain the unity and participation evident during the battle of Adwa onto the construction of the renaissance dam.

Cevital eyes huge investments in Ethiopia

In a meeting with Foreign Minister Dr. Workneh Gebeyhu, Mr. Issad Rebrab the founder and manager of the of Cevital, the largest private conglomerate in Algeria, with interests in the agri-food sector, retail, industry and services disclosed the company's decision to set up huge investment projects in Ethiopia today (February 24, 2017). Mr. Issad Rebrab said, Cevital has been studying the Ethiopian economy starting from 2013 and looking on how to be part of the notable development in the country. Following its study, added Mr. Issad, the company has recognized three main sectors to invest in Ethiopia namely sugar production and refinery, oilseeds crashing and edible oil production and animal food production.

Commending Cevital's plan to be part of the country's Second Growth and Transformation Plan (GTP II), Dr. Workneh noted that the government of Ethiopia will extend its full support in its future endeavors to help the country a self-sufficient and net exporter in the areas it plans to invest in. He added, this will showcase the strong and ever growing Ethio-Algerian relations in various fields.

Following the visit, Cevital has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Public Enterprises. This will help Cevital to closely work with Tendaho-Metehara-Wondji-Kessem Cluster Sugar Companies for the full implementation of the refinery plant it aims to build in the area.

Ethiopian Diaspora members residing in Doha- the State of Qatar

Ethiopian Diaspora members residing in Doha- the State of Qatar had a fruitful discussion on the current situation in their home country.

The discussion which was held on 4 November 2016 at Ethiopian Embassy in Doha was chaired by H.E. Ambassador Mesganu Arga, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia to the State of Qatar.

H.E. Ambassador Mesganu had briefed the participants on the situation in the country particularly the legitimate demands of the people of Ethiopia, the commitment of the government to respond the demands of the people, the role of anti-peace elements both in the diaspora and those at home in the destabilization and distraction in the country as well as the need for the declaration of the State of emergency that was declared by the government to protect the constitutional rights of the people of Ethiopia.

The participants on their part appreciated the government’s effort in bringing law and order in the country and expressed their commitment to contribute their part in the realization of peace, democracy and development in their mother land. The participants also demanded the government to listen to the grievances of the people and work hard to fulfil the interests people especially democracy, the rule of law and equitable distribution of wealth.

In conclusion H.E. Ambassador Mesganu has commended members of the diaspora who took part in the discussion for their active participation and requested them to strengthen their active engagement in the affairs of their country. He finally reiterated the commitment of the government to renew itself and best serve the people of Ethiopia.

H.E. Ambassador Mesganu Arga, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia to the State of Qatar, had a fruitful discussion with Mr Mohamed Sultan Al Jaber, Chairman of Al Jaber Engineering Group, at the latter’s office on 09 November 2016. Al Jaber Engineering is the leading general contractor based in the State of Qatar and a major Conglomerate of over 18 companies.

During the discussion H.E. Ambassador Mesganu has delivered a brief overview on the political, economic and social progress in Ethiopia. In addition, he explains Ethiopia’s fastest growing construction and industrial sector, an area that Al Jaber Engineering can consider to invest in. The ambassador also briefed the investment regulations, investment incentives and investment opportunities in Ethiopia.

Mr Mohamed Sultan Al Jaber on his part introduced the status of the Al Jaber Engineering as a leading construction firm in Qatar and the gulf region and its widening scope. He also stated that his company is expanding its investment scope and interested in entering Ethiopian investment Market.

In conclusion, the two sides agreed to facilitate a pre - investment visit for Mr Mohamed Sultan Al Jaber to Ethiopia in the near future.

The 9th National Flag Day of F.D.R.E. was colourfully celebrated at the Embassy of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia in Doha-Qatar on October 17, 2016. The national flag of the F.D.R. of Ethiopia was gracefully raised along with the Ethiopian National Anthem.

Our national flag which is the symbol of our national pride and unity in diversity and which is also the emblem of the nations, Nationalities and peoples’ of Ethiopia was honoured in the presence of H.E. Ambassador Extraordinary and plenipotentiary of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia to the State of Qatar M.r. Misganu Arga, diplomats, embassy staff and members Ethiopian diaspora residing in Doha.  

During his remark at the ceremony H.E. Ambassador Misganu Arga said that our National Flag is the symbol of our sovereignty and national unity and should be honoured and protected. He also call all the Ethiopian diaspora in Qatar to renew their commitment in order to protect and respect their national flag which enabled all Ethiopian Nations, Nationalities and peoples to live in dignity, mutual respect and  in peaceful co-existence.

Ethiopian Diasporas in Qatar also stressed the need to uphold their national flag which is the source of their national pride and agreed to renew their commitments to honour and grace it as well as protect it in all circumstances.

The 25th anniversary of May 28, the national Day of Ethiopia, which symbolizes the dawn fall of the military dictatorship regime in Ethiopia, was celebrated in Doha, Qatar.

The 25th anniversary of May 28, the national Day of Ethiopia, which symbolizes the dawn fall of the military dictatorship regime in Ethiopia, was celebrated in Doha, Qatar.

The celebration was held in two phases. The first was on 2 June 2016 at Sheraton Hotel in the presence of the Ministers, Ambassadors, businessmen, invited guests and Ethiopian nations residing in Doha.  Ambassador Misganu Agra, Ethiopia’s ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary to the State of Qatar said, the May 28 victory is the special day in the History of Ethiopian, in which Ethiopia emerged from the dictatorial Military rule that oppressed its own citizens as a foreign colonizers and led the country to move backwards while most of the countries of the world were moving forward both politically and economically. He added, the current democratic and responsible government that led the nation through democratic principles, rule of law and fastest growing economy which are the very fruits of May 28 victories.

The second day event was held at Doha sport stadium in the attendance of invited guests and more that 5000 Ethiopian nationals and nationals of Qatar and neighbouring countries. The event was graced by the legendary Ethiopian artists. In his speech at the event ambassador Misganu Arga underlined the need for the current generation to work hard in order to build the prosperous and peaceful Ethiopia on the foundation laid by the victory of May 28. Ethiopians who participated in the celebration also expressed their commitment to contribute their part to redouble the victory gained by toppling dictatorial regime once again over poverty and backwardness and assuring Ethiopian renaissance.

The 5th anniversary of the start of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam

The 5th anniversary of the start of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) project is clourfully celebrated on 15 April 2016 in the premises of Ethiopian Embassy in Doha, Qatar. Ethiopians, Foreign nationals of Ethiopian origin, nationals of Sudan, Somali and Yemen were attended the event.
The construction of the dam is currently well above 50% completed and the public participation on the dam is very extraordinary especially that of Sudan said Ambassador Misganu Arga, Ethiopia's Ambassador to the State of Qatar. He also acknowledged the participation and the soldarity of the Sudanese community in Qatar for their continous support for the GERD.
The event was also graced by cultural shows and briefings on the status of the dam, recognition programs for the outstanding contributers for the dam and purchasing of Bonds. 
As a result the bond amounted to 54,000 US dollars was soled and the amount of 55,000 US dollars was pleaged to be purchased soon. 
The Embassy wouldlike to thank all Ethiopians in Qatar and that of neighboring countries for their strong support for the project and urge Ethiopians, Ethiopian origins and citizens of neighboring countries to strengthen their commitment untill the completion of the Dam.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Sudan’s Bashir attends constitution celebrations in Ethiopia

The Sudanese president Omer Hassan al-Bashir has arrived in Ethiopia on Monday in a one-day visit to attend the 20th anniversary of the adoption of the constitution and to participate in the border states conference.

The border states conference was held in the capital of Bani Shangoul Gimiz region, Asosa with the participation of seven Sudanese and Ethiopian states.

The Sudanese ambassador to Addis Ababa and permanent representative of Sudan at the African Union (AU), Abdel-Rahman Sir al-Khatim, had said that Bashir will be the guest of honor in the Ethiopian Peoples Day celebrations of the twentieth anniversary of the adoption of the constitution.

“Our relationship with Ethiopia has surpassed the era of conflicts and aims to achieve development in the border areas and we are currently examining several projects to fulfill that objective on the ground”, he added.

Bashir, who led a delegation comprised of 150 people, also participated in a special forum on the benefits of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) in the presence of representatives from several Nile Basin countries.

The Sudanese minister of culture and member of the delegation, al-Tayeb Hassan Badawi, said earlier that Bashir will inspect the workflow at GERD, stressing that the dam serves the interests of both countries.

Sudan Tribune recalls that the activities of the 16th conference on the development of border ties between Ethiopia and Sudan has been launched on Sunday in Ethiopia’s Bani Shangoul Gimiz region and will continue for two days.

The conference which will be attended by the governors of the border states discusses the recommendations of the 15th conference which was held in Sudan’s state of Gedaref last May.
It also tackles issues of common interest in various areas including political and security issues, trade, investment, information, youth and sports, tourism, health, agriculture, forests and animal wealth.

The Sudanese border states participating in the conference include the Blue Nile, Sennar and Gedaref while Ethiopia’s participating regions include Amhara, Tigray and Bani Shangoul Gimiz.
